Nancy O'Dell's broadcast career began as an anchor and journalist for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. She worked later as a morning news anchor on WCBD TV and acted as the crime reporter. O'Dell's stories in Charleston regarding the police's tolerance regarding DUI cases, prompted the State Law Enforcement Division to examine. The result was the state government imposing more stringent rules in these instances. Ms. O'Dell was awarded the Best Report of the Media Award in South Carolina by the Associated Press. O'Dell then worked for the Miami-based NBC station WTVJ-TV as a investigative reporter and anchor, prior to her joining Access Hollywood in the role of co-anchor for the weekend. O'Dell, in addition to being the lead anchor for Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC. She has co-hosted a variety of pre-shows and arrivals shows for The Emmys as well as The Golden Globe Awards. The other shows she has hosted include the Miss USA pageant, and Miss Universe.
